Moncusí’s Mexican tour will start in Guanajuato, where he will conduct the Symphony Orchestra of the city’s university from 29 September to 3 October. At these concerts, the works “Chapultepec” (Manuel M. Ponce), “Concert for guitar and orchestra” (Malcolm Arnold) and “Concert for orchestra” (Witold Lutoslawski) will be performed. From 6 to 11 October the tour will continue with the Symphony Orchestra of San Luis Potosí, which will play “Danzas Fantásticas” (Joaquín Turina), “Danzón N. 2” (Arturo Márquez), “Huapango” (José Pablo Moncayo) and “El sombrero de tres picos; suites 1 and 2” (Manuel de Falla).
The third stop of the tour will be at Morelia, where the Catalan musician will conduct the Symphony Orchestra of the State of Michoacán. These concerts, which will be held from 13 to 17 October, will feature “Don Giovanni. Overture” and “Fin ch’han dal vino” (W.A. Mozart); “I Capuletti ed I Montecchi. Overture” and “Norma. Opera symphony” (Vincenzo Bellini); “Bella siccome un angelo” (Gaetano Donizetti); “I vespri siciliani. Overture”, “Eri tu che Macchi avi”, “La Traviata, Prelude to Act 1”, “Di Provenza il mare, il suol” and “Per mi giunto” (Giuseppe Verdi); “The Barber of Seville. Overture” and “Largo al factotum” (Gioachino Rossini) will be performed.
Finally, Moncusí will complete the tour of Mexico in the city of Aguascalientes where he will conduct, form 20 to 24 October, “Variations on a theme by J. Haydn, Op. 56a” (Johannes Brahms) and “Danzas Fantàsticas” and “Simfonia Sevillana” (Joaquín Turina). Marc Moncusí was born in Valls (Tarragona) and studied at the Conservatori Superior de Música of Liceu de Barcelona, at the Real Conservatorio Superior de Música in Madrid – where he graduated in orchestra conducting and composition– and at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh. He has conducted symphony orchestras around the world.
