The 34th edition of the Cambridge Film Festival features a total of six Catalan directors in the “Camera Catalonia” section. Continuing with the idea of celebrating the cinema of the past, present and future, the event will project both recent Catalan films and some which are older. In fact, two of the productions that have been invited to the Festival will be premiered in the United Kingdom: the premiere of Tots volem el millor per a ella (We All Want What’s Best for Her) (2013) by Mar Coll is scheduled for Thursday 4 September, while Fill de Caín (Son of Cain) (2013) by Jesús Monllaó Plana will be premiered on the following day.
Coll is one of the directors who have been invited to the Festival, together with Cesc Gay and Hammudi Al-Rahmoun Font, directors of Ficció (Fiction) (2006) and Otel·lo (Othello) (2012) respectively, which will also be shown during the film festival. In addition, Professor Paul Preston has been invited to the screening of the documentary Un poema a l’exili (A Poem in Exile) (2012) by Alba Gómez Escudero. Audiences at the Cambridge Film Festival can also see Menú Degustació (Tasting Menu) by Roger Gual (2013).
The Catalan presence of six films at the event receives the support of the Institut Ramon Llull in the context of the institute’s promotion abroad of documentaries and films. The Cambridge Film Festival is an annual event of international renown which has gained prestige year after year that seeks to provide a platform for independent film-making and strives to stand up to the expansion of the American film industry.
