Sant Jordi in London at Borough Market on Sunday 23 April

Sant Jordi / St George is celebrated both in England and Catalonia. In recognition of this, the Catalan Government and organisations join up once again with London Borough Market to present a festive day of arts, roses and books on Sunday 23 April 2017 from 12pm to 4pm. Newham Bookshop will join us once again with a book stall with translations of Catalan literature. Free event, all welcome!

Flatpack Festival: Segundo de Chomón

A selection of films from Segundo de Chomón opens Flatpack Festival on 4 April. The pioneering Spanish director began his career in Barcelona and was renowned for his camera trickery. Multi-instrumentalist Stephen Horne will provide live accompaniment to the screenings of this forgotten master of silent film.

Sol Picó and Agrupación Señor Serrano at HOME

Dance company Sol Picó and  multimedia artists Agrupación Señor Serrano perform at HOME in Manchester as part of ¡Viva! Festival, a programme that will also include two scratch performances of works by playwright Josep Maria Miró Coromina: 'Smoke' and 'The Archimedes Principle' from 31 March to 8 April.

Exhibition by Dora García at The Tetley in Leeds

'These books were alive; they spoke to me!' is an exhibition of printed matter and performance works by Barcelona based artist Dora García. Her first institutional solo show in the UK, this exhibition will also coincide with the 20th annual Leeds International Contemporary Artists’ Book Fair taking place at The Tetley, in Leeds, in March 2017.

The Centre for Catalan Studies at Queen Mary University of London announces a Call for Papers for the Conference 'Catalan Literature in English: Translation, Readership and Impact' taking place on 14 and 15 September 2017. The deadline for submission of abstracts is on 30 of April.

Sharing a Future: Books in Catalan Catalonia and the Balearic Islands, Guest of Honour at the Bologna Children’s Book Fair

Catalonia and the Balearic Islands are exhibiting in Bologna with the theme Sharing a Future: Books in Catalan, in a clear reference to the importance of children and young people for the future of literature, with a programme that includes over forty activities with more than sixty participants for the fair and around the city. The Institut Ramon Llull, a consortium formed by the governments of Catalonia and the Balearic Islands and Barcelona City Council to promote the Catalan language and culture internationally, was responsible for coordinating this programme, starting on 1 April.
