Jansky on tour at the Universities of Liverpool, Durham, Newcastle and London

Music and poetry duet Jansky will be visiting the Universities of Liverpool, Durham, Newcastle and London in November with the support of the Institut Ramon Llull. Its members, Laia Malo and Raume, will offer a hands-on workshop to students currently learning Catalan, in which participants will learn about 'electroverse' and the musicality of the Catalan language and create their own track. The band from Mallorca will also play live in Liverpool, Newcastle and London.

'Goyescas': Music in the time of Goya - José Menor celebrates Enric Granados

Join virtuoso pianist José Menor and The Latin Classical Chamber Orchestra on an exhilarating musical journey to 18th-century Spain as they mark the centenary of the great Catalan composer Enric Granados (1867-1916) at St John's Smith Square, London, on 2 November. His unique multi-media programme, inspired by the life and times of Granados’ greatest muse, the Spanish painter Francisco de Goya (1746-1828), is part of a commemorative world tour launched at New York’s Carnegie Hall in March.

Maria Canyigueral: Contemporary Granados

Catalan pianist Maria Canyigueral pays homage to Granados with a programme including the UK Premiere of a new work by Benet Casablancas inspired by Granados on 7 November at St James Picadilly. This event is one of the flagship Granados centenary concerts and other events taking place across the UK this Autumn.

VI Jornades Marçalianes at The University of Cambridge

The Department of Spanish and Portuguese at the University of Cambridge is hosting a symposium on the Catalan writer, teacher, translator and activist Maria-Mercè Marçal at Emmanuel College on Friday 11 November as part of the VI Jornades Marçalianes. The theme of the symposium is sexuality, desire and eroticism in Marçal’s work.

LXII Anglo-Catalan Annual Conference

The LXII annual conference will be held at the University of Leeds from 11 to 13 November 2016.The programme covers a wide diversity of topics including history, literature, linguistics and sociology whose common denominator is the Catalan dimension. The Joan Gili Memorial Lecture this year is presented by literary critic and historian Enric Bou. Writer Teresa Solana, academic and critic Maria Delgado and poet Manuel Forcano will also take part in the conference.

Guitarist Carles Trepat performs 'Granados-Llobet, 100 anys d'un viatge' in London as part of Granados Centenary

Pre-eminent guitarist Carles Trepat marks the Granados centenary with a programme based on his 2015 album 'Granados-Llobet, 100 anys d'un viatge', exploring the relationship between the two Catalan composers Enric Granados and Miguel Llobet. The concert takes place on Thursday 17 November at St Peter’s Eaton Square, London.

Llull Year: Symposiums in Birmingham and Oxford to commemorate 700 years of the death of Ramon Llull

The celebration of Llull Year in 2016 commemorates the seventh centenary of the death of extraordinary thinker Ramon Llull and provides an opportunity to showcase the importance of his contribution to the world and his influence on numerous European intellectuals. In November the Universities of Oxford and Birmingham mark this occasion with two symposiums and an exhibition.
