The Great Escape 2012 announces its lead international partnership with the Institut Ramon Llull to present Catalan Sounds on Tour
The Great Escape announced Institut Ramon Llull as its lead international partner for the 2012 festival in Brighton, presenting Catalan Sounds - music from Catalonia and the Balearic Islands. From Barcelona to the Mediterranean islands, Catalan territories are a hot-bed of new music, both live and recorded. TGE is especially delighted to welcome to the festival Mujeres / Me And The Bees / Seward / Furguson / Oso Leone / Ninette & The Goldfish and The Suicide of Western Culture, as part of the lead International partnership with the Institut Ramon Llull, presenting Catalan Sounds - music from Catalonia and the Balearic Islands. Yorkshire Sculpture Park presents the first major exhibition of sculpture by Joan Miró
In collaboration with the artist's foundations and family, YSP is proud to present the first major UK exhibition of sculpture by Joan Miró, one of Europe's most important 20th century artists. The exhibition describes the extraordinary wealth of Miró's sculpture, much of which was made in the second half of his life. With key works set in the landscape, the exhibition fulfils the artist's desire that "sculpture must stand in the open air, in the middle of nature".

Centre for Catalan Studies Annual Lecture 'A Catalan Dimension to Films from Spain?'
In recent years, much valuable scholarship has been devoted to films from Spain. In this context, however, commentators have preferred an uncomplicated view of nationality and how it relates to cinema. A number of directors, for example, are bracketed simply as "Spanish" when this definition sits uncomfortably with their more complex deliberation on the notion of national identity. It is the intention of this lecture to consider this concern - with particular reference to Catalonia - in the output of a series of prominent filmmakers.
