The 42nd Quebec City Summer Festival will take place from 8th to 18th July and will feature shows by Los Gingers and Pep Bou and the band La Pegatina, in collaboration with the Institut Ramon Llull. The 11-day festival, one of Canada’s most important cultural offerings, includes a programme of over 300 events showcasing artists from around the world.
The theatre company led by the actor Pep Bou, which recently won the 2010 Max Award for the Latest Trend, will stage the show Clar de lluna (Moonlight) on 10th and 11th July. Later on, from 15th to 18th July, the circus troupe Los Gingers will perform Perlas y plumas (Pearls and Feathers), inspired by variety shows. The band La Pegatina brings a musical note to the Catalan participation at the festival on 11th and 12th July.
In 2008, the Festival d’été de Québec and the IRL organized the cultural programme Fait en Catalogne (Made in Catalonia), which included musical performances by Jaleo Real and Gertrudis, and theatre by Capa i Espasa and Los Galindos at the festival.
There has been a Catalan cultural presence in Canada and Quebec in recent years. Catalan contemporary dance was prominent at the Agora de la danse, while Catalan performers were invited to the Juste pour rire (Just for Laughs) festivals in Montreal and Toronto, the Montreal International Jazz Festival and the Montreal World Film Festival. Last year, Los excèntricos, los Grumildos and Che Sudaka took part in the Quebec City Summer Festival.
