Last Wednesday the official inauguration of Expolangues 2010, the language and education fair, which has invited the Catalan language as guest of honour, took place in Paris. This is the first international project promoted by the Fundació Ramon Llull and organized directly by the IRL.
From 4th February the exhibition The Unavowable Community will be on display in Girona, bringing together the projects Technologies To The People by Daniel G. Andújar, Sitesize by Joan Vila-Puig and Elvira Pujol, and Archivo F.X. by Pedro G. Romero.
From 3rd to 6th February 2010 Birmingham presents the British Dance Edition 2010 (BDE), a bi-ennial festival for industry professionals showcasing some of the best UK-based artists and companies.
The 10th Escena Contemporánea (Contemporary Scene) Festival will take place from 19th January to 15th February 2010 in Madrid. This year’s programme includes performances by Sònia Gómez, from 3rd to 7th February, and by Kamchatka, on 3rd and 4th February, with the support of the Institut Ramon Llull.
The MC93 Bobigny Theatre in Paris will host the “Balade catalane” between 1st and 14th February, showcasing Catalan literature, music and theatre. The programme includes a blend of literary recitals and gastronomy, and the shows Piturrino fa de music (Piturrino the Musician) by Carles Santos, performed with the BCN 216 orchestra, and 2666, directed by Àlex Rigola. The festival is part of a series of activities with a Catalan theme being organized in Paris in the first half of this year, with the two highlights being the Expolangues language fair, which will take place from 3rd to 6th February with the Catalan language as the guest of honour, and the Marché de la Poésie in June.

The fifth Hay Festival Cartagena will include a strong presence of Catalan literature and culture. The writers Najat el Hachmi, Màrius Serra and Miquel Rayó, along with the Xirriquiteula theatre company, will be taking part in the Columbian edition of this renowned festival from 27th to 31st January.

On Thursday, 21st January, the members of the Fundació Ramon Llull, on behalf of the institutions it represents, signed the document Catalan, the language of 10 million Europeans, a consensual text that highlights the force of the Catalan language and presses for greater recognition by international institutions, especially European ones. The signing took place at the Institute of Catalan Studies to coincide with the presentation of the programme of activities for Expolangues 2010, at which the Catalan language will be the guest of honour.

The stars from film, the actors Sergi López, Eduardo Noriega and the young Marc Soto, along with the director and producer Marc Recha, will be attending the presentation
